Get your calendars out, folks: It might still be a while off, but 2K Games confirms that BioShock Infinite will be on shelves starting October 16th, with an international launch planned for October 19th.
The return to the BioShock franchise is already shaping up as one of the most anticipated releases of 2012, snagging a whole bunch of awards before it's even arrived.
Ken Levine, Creative Director of developer Irrational Games explains:
After BioShock, we had a vision for a follow up that dwarfed the original in scope and ambition. BioShock Infinite has been our sole focus for the last four years, and we can't wait for fans to get their hands on it.
Taking things in a slightly different direction, BioShock Infinite has emerged from the ocean depths, taking gamers to the lofty heights of city-in-the-sky Columbia, in a 1912 America that "might have been".
Play as Booker DeWitt, a former Pinkerton agent, accompanied by the delightful AI Elizabeth. This isn't one for the faint-hearted (or the motion-sick) - with a vast array of new weapons and abilities, Booker and Elizabeth face off against menacing enemies in one of the most unique environments we've seen for a long time. Expect some classic BioShock gameplay mixed up with fast-paced aerial combat and, of course, an impressive, immersive storyline.
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
