"I would love to do Psychonauts 2," says Tim Schafer of Double Fine studios.
I’ve actually pitched that to publishers several times and no-one has taken the bait so far… I’d have to convince someone to just give me a few million dollars. That’s all.
This gem came out of a recent interview with Digital Spy, which also saw Schafer explaining the differences between a developer and a publisher - finally admitting that, really, Double Fine is probably a little too busy to really get Psychonauts 2 off the ground.
Working on a sequel, he ponders, would potentially prevent a new and fabulous game being created.
If I did a sequel to Full Throttle there wouldn't have been Grim Fandango, and so on and so on down the line.
Pausing for thought, Tim also muses that - with the multiple team approach taken at Double Fine, one of those teams could well work on revisiting an older game.
Meanwhile, if the only thing stopping Psychonauts 2 is money, Schafer and Double Fine may have a generous benefactor waiting in the wings, wearing a lovely hat.
Upon hearing the developer's plight, Minecraft creator Notch perked up his Swedish, block-like ears: "How many millions exactly?"
Let's make Psychonauts 2 happen.
At time of writing, Tim (of Legend) Schafer has not responded, but Notch has confirmed "Also, I'm serious."
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
I wish he was serious about finishing his first game first. :-|
