At the time, many gamers believed that Crytek would simply stop working on the PC build of Crysis 2 - abandoning the company's once-adoring PC playerbase. That didn't happen, with development on the game continuing and a successful release in March 2011.
Now though, with some new numbers from TorrentFreak, we're guessing that any future Crytek releases will probably not be showing up on PC, as Crysis 2 snags the dubious honour of being the most pirated PC title of 2011.

It's also interesting to note that Modern Warfare 3 was the biggest selling game of 2011, and the most recently-released title in that list, officially hitting hselves in November. Make of that what you will.
PC downloads, predictably, were nearly triple their console equivalents, to the point where PlayStation 3 downloads weren't considered substantial enough to be featured in this year's charts.
Next most popular platform is the Nintendo Wii, which - also predictably - saw a certain plumber taking home honours, not once but twice. Meanwhile, Xbox 360 gamers were also smitten by both Modern Warfare, but the top spot went to Marcus and Dom.

Incidentally - while it's impossible to ever get a pinpoint-accurate "official" figure, these numbers have been gathered from an assortment of sources across the internets, including all public BitTorrent trackers. TorrentFreak has certainly done its homework.
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
