Sony confirms Fumito Ueda’s departure

Fumito Ueda has left Sony. The director and designer of Team ICO's projects has parted ways from his position but will still continue to work on a contract basis and is committed to finishing The Last Guardian.

Gamasutra reported today that Sony has confirmed Ueda's departure. This comes after the announcement last week of The Last Guardian Producer Yoshifusa Hayama's departure from Sony as well. With many delays and cancelled showings of The Last Guardian, focus will slowly turn to see if this will affect the project that many of us have been waiting for.

What is the fate of The Last Guardian now?

While he has only released two games while working with Team ICO and Sony, those two games are two of the best the Playstation generations have ever seen. Ico and Shadow of Colossus, while never achieving mass success, have had critical acclaim and huge recognition from the industry. They recently received the HD treatment and a re-release for the Playstation 3. While this pleased us, we have still been waiting over 4 years for any info on The Last Guardian.

Where do you think Fumito Ueda will go? Will be join his Yoshifusa Hayama at a social gaming company? Let us know what you think in the forums.
