Foo Fighters to headline BlizzCon 2011

Attendees at next month's BlizzCon will be treated to the lyrical stylings of Mr. Dave Grohl, as Blizzard confirms that the Foo Fighters will headline the closing concert of this year's event.

If you're not able to get to Anaheim for October 21-22, or if you've not snapped up a ticket to the sold-out event, the next-best-thing is still available: Watch at home thanks to a BlizzCon Virtual Ticket - either over the internets, or via DIRECTV in the U.S..

Foo Fighters at BlizzCon

Yepyep, that's them all right.

Do I really need to tell you much about Foo Fighters? The band has sold a bajillion albums, picked up a bunch of awards, and generally been pretty awesome. And, y'know, Dave Grohl used to be in Nirvana (that's still relevant, right?)!

Dave is a little bit excited:

We're pretty sure that in the future, music historians will look back at BlizzCon 2011 as the unquestionable pinnacle of Foo Fighters' long and illustrious career. We look forward to living up to that prediction by bringing the Horde and Alliance together to rock the hell out of Anaheim next month.

This will actually be Mr. Grohl's second appearance on the BlizzCon stage - while I'd love to say that he won the dancing contest last year, he actually showed up as the drummer for Tenacious D at last year's closing ceremony.

...possibly even more exciting is the news that The Artist Formerly Known as Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain will be making its triumphant return to the stage, after a two-year interstellar tour through the Koprulu sector prevented the band from appearing last year.

"Blizzard's in-house metal band" promises a set full of familiar tunes, with some brand-newies thrown in for good measure, with everything inspired by the Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo universes.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment is a massive fan of both bands:

There's no better way to cap off two days of gaming entertainment than by blowing the roof off the convention center with an awesome rock concert. Everyone attending BlizzCon and watching from home can look forward to ending the show with a bang when Foo Fighters bring the house down.

BlizzCon is a celebration of all things Blizzard - Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo - held almost annually in Anaheim, California. For more information on the Virtual Ticket arrangements, head to the BlizzCon website, and get ready.
