Remember when your mother said that you'd never make any money from video games? Well, if you've got the skillz when it comes to Battlefield 3, you could take home a share of $1.6 million - and because she didn't believe in you, you don't have to give mum any of it.
DICE, EA and Virgin Gaming have announced the Battlefield 3 Worldwide Conquest Tournament, to celebrate the launch of the shooter later next month, pitting gamers from around the world against one another, competing for the chance to win a bit pile of cash.
Don't worry that the game's not out yet, we're giving you plenty of warning. This won't kick off until early 2012, by which time you'll have been practicing BF3 like there's no tomorrow. After a series of rounds, heats and levels, EA is planning a live grand finale - the players with the bestest skillz will face off for a share of the prize pool.
Reportedly the biggest console cash prize pool in gaming history is making a bit of a splash, as Zachary Zeldin, Co-Founder of Virgin Gaming explains:
We’re always looking to raise the bar for our members, to give them truly epic gaming experiences they won’t find anywhere else and Battlefield 3 hits the mark. This partnership with EA and DICE is exactly the kind of relationship it takes to deliver on that goal, and we can’t be more excited to be working with them to host the greatest competitive gaming event I’ve ever seen.
For more information on the Worldwide Conquest Tournament, point your browser towards BattlefieldMillions.com and read all about it. Then, go get limbered up - you've got some practising to do, soldier!
The Battlefield 3 open beta kicked off last night for gamers with early access - everybody else is welcome from September 29th. If nothing else, take this as an opportunity to find out just how overdue you are for a PC upgrade!
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
