Do the milkshake the milkshake do the shake
Not familiar with PRA? It's the studio behind The Cat Piano, which has won a number of Australian film awards, as well as making the shortlist for "Best Animated Short" at the 82nd Academy Awards in 2010.
The combination of Halfbrick and PRA is a promising one - taking the award-winning character animation and storytelling abilities of one, and smushing them up together with the game design skills of the other.
And we won't have to wait long to see the fruits of their labour, either - the first collaboration between the two will be out shortly, an animated trailer for Halfbrick's upcoming mobile title, Machine Gun Jetpack, which is in the works for release this year.
Shainiel Deo, Halfbrick CEO is a bit pleased with the expansion:
This is an important step for Halfbrick. We see their narrative focus as an incredible resource for creating new and truly compelling IP. Between PRA and Halfbrick, there is barely a screen we can't reach.
Fortunately, the animators feel the same way, as PRA CEO Sam White explains:
The Halfbrick team has built a culture that fosters creative brilliance and simply breeds success.
We are very excited to be a part of Halfbrick, both to work with them to create exciting new gaming IP, and to continue to establish PRA one of the world's leading animation studios.
The joint announcement points out that The People's Republic of Animation will still continue to work with "new and ongoing clients", which is reassuring for the PRA's many commercial partnerships, including major Australian and international companies.
I like video games and music and cups of tea and noodles and beagles and colour-cycling LEDs.
