Think E3 is easy?
Watch here on E3 week and see how much exercise I do.
The second DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops, called Escalation, has landed on Xbox LIVE today, bringing with it a star-studded lineup of vocal talent and a brand new original song from Avenged Sevenfold. And, y'know, there's four new multiplayer maps and a bunch of zombies, too.
Gamers around the world have spent more than 2 billion hours playing Black Ops, so it's no surprise that Escalation does just that, taking the gameplay to a new level.
New multiplayer maps include:
Then there's the all-new (and undefeatable) Zombie experience, set in the dark and icy realms of Siberia. Assemble your zombie-carnage dream team and roll out.
The maps themselves feature the skills of some of Hollywood's more unique talents, including Day of the Dead director George A. Romero, Nightmare on Elm Street monster Robert Englund, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tarantino favourite Danny Trejo and The Walking Dead star Michael Rooker.
Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia explains the process:
"We took the community's feedback to heart, and the result is five of the most creative and varied maps we have ever made.
"'Call of the Dead' is an homage to the great horror films that have inspired the team and represents a deep commitment to our Zombie fans. Being able to collaborate with such talented artists and musicians was an absolute honor and thrill for everyone involved. We think the fans are going to go crazy over it!"
...and then there's the song. Avenged Sevenfold have contributed a tune called Not Ready to Die, the first time the band has ever written something for a movie or video game (and the first time since 2003 that an outside band has been commissioned for the Call of Duty franchise). The band's M. Shadows describes the seven-minute epic as having a "Castlevania" feel, sounding like "old-school Nintendo music meets Avenged Sevenfold". But this is no bloopy chiptunes bit.
"We're all huge fans of each other's work and have been talking with Mark and his team at Treyarch about creating something special.
"So when the opportunity came together to do 'Not Ready to Die,' it was a natural fit. We're stoked to be part of 'Call of the Dead'."
If you want to play your part in the latest Black Ops DLC, hop to it. Escalation is available right now!
I like video games, fishing, Depeche Mode, long walks on the beach, writing discussion papers and cups of tea. Not necessarily in that order.
