Ever wanted to know how Lara Croft started out in the Tomb Raider business? You're about to find out, with Square Enix, Eidos and Crystal Dynamics finally lifting the lid on their brand new game: Tomb Raider.
No, really, that's the name they've chosen - and they've also decided to use the January cover of this month's Game Informer magazine to break the news.
"After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was travelling on,
a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach.
On her own but not alone she has only one goal, to survive.
...and that's how it begins. The "frightened young woman" is, of course, Ms Croft (her hair's not really that short, honest) - and this new release will follow the first steps of her journey.
The developers have set out to build an "entirely fresh" Lara, one who's worth all the attention lavished upon her by an adoring public. To do this, they have had to break her. Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studio at developers Crystal Dynamics suggests:
"Forget everything you know about TOMB RAIDER, we are exploring things that have never been done before in this game. This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other."
It's currently in development for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, with absolutely no hint of a release date to be found. For (not very much) more information, head to www.tombraider.com or you can be Lara's friend on Twitter by following @TombRaider.
