Kinect sells 100,000 units a day

Two weeks ago, we told you that Microsoft had sold a million of their new Kinect peripherals for Xbox 360. Now, that number has more than doubled, with the new figures even more convincing: 2.5 million units sold worldwide in just 25 days. You don't need to do the math there to realise that's a lot of motion sensors sold every 24 hours, right?

The company thanks "strong demand" over the Black Friday weekend, with Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft explaining:

"We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand. With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday."

Any guesses how many people have tried this?

Kinect is now available in more than 60,000 retailers in 38 countries, with many stores describing Microsoft's latest toy as the "must-have gift" for the year. Now they're just crossing their fingers that supply will meet demand throughout December.
