Get stealthy with a MGS: Peace Walker Walkman

The Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Sony Walkman is coming to Australia. Well, 50 of them are, anyway. Talk about a Limited Edition!

Aw look, it's a stealthy heart!

We first saw the design last month, and from a purely aesthetic perspective, it's a bit snazzy - unique camouflage finish, well-designed promotional photos in a heart shape, discreet branding... but the real fun (as with most audio players) is on the 'inside'. The 2GB Walkman comes pre-loaded with a bunch of songs from the game's soundtrack, plus a special in-carton code to unlock some more characters for MGS: Peace Walker.

You'll also be able to find iconic Walkman models dotted throughout the game for you to collect, to further cement the Sony tie-in.

The promotional material explains that the wire-free limited edition W Series Walkman is a water-resistant and washable MP3 player, which apparently means it's "suitable for use in active sports", you can splash it a bit, and you can hold it under a running tap for a little while... it does not, however, mean it'll survive a trip through the washing machine.

It promises 11 hours of playback time, and only takes 90 minutes to fully charge (there's also a quick-charge function that will take 3 minutes and let you play up to 90 minutes of tunes, if you're in a hurry). And yes, it's iTunes compatible!

If you're interested, this little piece of stealthy audio technology will be available exclusively through the Sony Style website, for AU$129. That'll get you both the Walkman and a copy of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP - not a bad deal when you consider their other Walkmans (Walkmen?) retail for AU$99, standalone. The game-and-Walkman bundle will be available from June 17th.
