Heavy Rain: Bound for the silver screen?

"Interactive film" Heavy Rain may well see a non-interactive interpretation, with news coming to hand that the cinematic rights to Quantic Dream's storyline were sold to New Line in the heady days of 2006.

Given the game's lengthy development period, this timeframe isn't really surprising, but we'd imagine that New Line are pretty chuffed with the way the game's finally turned out.

Of course, selling the film rights doesn't ever really guarantee that the movie will ever hit the silver screen, and this seems to be particularly the case this time around. Y'see, back in 2006, New Line Cinema was a semi-autonomous subsidiary of Time Warner, built around the success of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Reefer Madness and a whole pile of John Waters pictures.

Since then, however, New Line was absorbed into the Warner Bros. film unit, which saw all of their 'expensive' projects moved over to WB, and the once fiercely-independent studio resorting to work on chick flicks, the occasional horror film and works based on Tolkein novels.

...in some ways though, Heavy Rain could almost fit in with that lot, hmm.
