Blizzard announce: Cataclysm, StarCraft II in 2010

Blizzard Logo In today's Activision Blizzard quarterly earnings call, Blizzard head honcho Mike Morhaime gave us the news we've been dying to hear:

You'll be able to play Cataclysm, the new expansion for World of Warcraft, in 2010.
(...oh, and that StarCraft II title will be sneaking in this year as well, with a beta rumoured to kick off this month!)

Sure, we kinda suspected both of these were the case - but it's always nice to have them confirmed, y'know?

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick explains that it's all part of a pretty decent 2010 lineup:

"On a non-GAAP basis, we expect to deliver a year of record net earnings and operating margins and are taking another step towards our long-term objective of operating margins of 30% or more. In calendar year 2010, we expect our net earnings and operating margin growth will be driven by our product slate that includes Blizzard Entertainment's Starcraft II and the World of Warcraft expansion pack, Cataclysm, as well as a diversified lineup based on Activision Publishing's best-selling franchises including Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk, together with other well-known titles such as True Crime, Spider-Man and Bakugan."

Interestingly (but not really surprisingly), the call also included details on a new James Bond title - supposedly to be developed at Bizarre (currently working on racer Blur); and a new Tony Hawk: Ride - with significantly improved software since last year, so hold your jokes (for now).

So - nothing actually new there, but nothing (on the surface) terribly bad, either. Impressively, there's only two releases from the Hero stable: one Guitar and one DJ - looks like even ActiBlizz realised they'd somewhat saturated the market.
